I've been holding back on reviewing SGSE because I know a few people who don't like skullgirls because of some of its odd gimmicks (and because of its fanservice) but honestly I don't care about what they think or have to say about it's combat so I'm not going to let them interfere with my review of an honestly good fighting game.
- 1. Combat Overview
SGSE has a pretty good combat system, it's pretty easy to master once you get the hang of it. Some of the specials are finicky to perform on MNK but it's not too big of a deal, just use a controller or an arcade stick if you despise MNK.
- 2. High skill ceiling, Low skill floor
Ok I will say this, if you've been playing SGSE for a while (like I have) you'll know that noobs will get absolutely floored if they play randoms and don't know what they're doing. To combat that fact there are tons of coaches on social media who'll be willing to help coach you to be a skullgirls pro in no time. With that being said there is a low-skill floor because of how easy it is to play the game!!
- 3. Artstyle and Fanservice (YIKES)
It's also important to address the game's fanservice, which can be a divisive issue among players (and artists in the community alike). While some may find it off-putting, others may enjoy it as part of the game's aesthetic. Ultimately it's up to each individual player to decide whether or not they are comfortable with it. I'm personally not a fan when it's of the underaged characters. But if it's of an adult, HV can go ham with it for all I care I'm just here to torture people with my Fukua infinites.
- 4. Overall
Overall SGSE is a solid fighting game with a lot of depth and potential for skilled players While it may not be for everyone, those who enjoy the genre and are willing to put in the time and effort to improve may find a lot to love about this game!
