TR-606 is underrated

Like, I'm pretty sure some of you didn't even know it exists. It's so overshadowed by the TR-808 and TR-909 and I think it doesn't get enough appreciation at all. Don't get me wrong, the 909 and 808 are great drum machines, too, but I don't think the 606 is any worse.

If you didn't know - TR-606 is a drum machine that was released as a companion for the TB-303 that's why it kinda looks like it). It had some mild success in the acid scene but I don't feel like it got the recognition it deserves. It is mostly recognized by it's metallic hat sounds, which just sound sick. If you want to use some kind of retro drum machine in your song but you're also afraid that TR-808/909 are overused (I mean, they kinda are, but they are still great), then TR-606 is for you.

To be honest, I never actually used  an actual TR-606, but I do have something very close to it - TR-06. I got it when I was looking for some drum machines and I couldn't find TR-09 (which I wanted) so I opted-in for the 06. Honestly, I didn't even know how it sounds at that point - that listing from where I bought it was literally the first time I was acknowledged about TR-606's existence. But oh boy, do I love this thing now. The ability to choose different samples and built-in effects open up so much space for creativity. I think it might even be a better option than the 606 itself - it's cheaper, has more features and has a USB for MIDI and sound which is very handy. I mean, yeah, the original 606 has more authenticity and stuff, probably, idk, never used it. The point is - doesn't really matter, if you use a 606, 06 or just a sample pack/vst, it's still a very great yet underrated drum machine.

So I suggest you download some samples of it from the internet and give it a shot :)
