Because they're High-School movies. I know practically everybody who has seen a high-school movie and also seen or experienced high-school themselves, it's almost always different. The time period on when these movies were made are different to the ever-evolving culture of the social life that us teens have. Therefore, it's outdated. Not to mention that obviously the people who are directing the movies are most of the time past their high-school ages and reflects on a utopian or a romantic standard on what high-school would be designed to be. It's depressing that the aesthetics of those films don't apply to real life, but what matters is how you incorporate yourself in high school and how you find a particular part of it enjoyable. It could be friends, family, the internet, etc. It really depends.
