i myself am not jewish , i just enjoy learning about it !! 

asara b'tevet is a jewish holiday that consists of fasting and mourning the destroying of the Holy Temple at the hands of the babylonians . this year, asara b'tevet falls on january the 3rd . asara b'tevet is not the actual date of the destroying of the Temple but rather the date nebuchadnezzar declared seige on jerusalem . it is a sad day , and special prayers are added to usual prayers . asara b'tevet means literally tevet 10 - tevet being a jewish month , and this date occuring on the 10th of said month .
