my feelings on french people

update!!! 

i have covid.

these holidays have been pretty busy, and we had some family over from france. im the most covid conscious out of everyone in my immediate family--i wear masks everywhere i go in public and you'll often hear me talking about how there's still a raging pandemic--and my family is pretty introverted, none of us are going to any big social gatherings. Overall our chances of getting covid were already pretty low, but after a lot of persuading we accepted to having some relatives over from france stay at our house. turns out they're not very safe. tbh it was pretty ridiculous and in the end my distate for french culture is once again solidified. anyways, i ended up catching it. im pretty upset, through a combination of luck and cautiousness i had managed to avoid getting it but here i am now with a pretty awful sore throat and just feeling bitter. also!! ive been planning on visitng my boyfriend for so long and now i'm going to have to wear a mask when we hang out >://. i haven't really read much since i tested positive, been pretty busy distracting myself from pain (note: my throat was so bad yesterday that i had to go to the ER and they gave me narcotics so i could sleep). 

on another note,,, i'm reading book 1 of the southern reach trilogy: Annihilation, by Jeff Vandermeer--yes, the book that the movie Annihilation is based on. they're pretty different, and i'm loving it so far. i think it'll be really valuable for me as i do more writing for Marketland, it's really teaching me to maybe parce it down, focus on the voice of the character. it's actually a really cool book so far, i'll let y'all know when i finish it.
