i'm a twilight sparkle alicorn hater, and here's why

i remember when i was a young child, and the season 4 finale came out. i still hated alicorn twilight, it was just wrong???
i think that making twilight an alicorn/princess was a terrible idea, especially when it wasn't even halfway through the show. i could understand the decision if they made it much later in the series, but it was definitely a marketing decision for hasbro. they capitalized off of twilight's new design so hard, with all of the toys and plushies that they made.

twilight sparkle came to canterlot to learn about friendship, which she did do in the first 4 seasons. but i feel like making her the 'princess of friendship' is too much of an end goal for it to happen in the middle of the series. also, say what you want, but the princess of friendship is a stupid ass title (yes i know it's a kinds show but come on)

the fact that twilight became a princess also added an unnecessary power imbalance between her and the rest of the mane 6. the whole point of the show was friendship, and making her seem more powerful than them when they all learned the friendship lessons just seemed sort of unfair?? also, twilight is literally immortal now, and she has to watch all of her best friends in the world die. that's a little fucked up if you ask me

something else that i'd like to bring up is the fact that lauren faust, the original director of the FIM series, intended for princess celestia and princess luna to be the only alicorns in the show. even if there were other 'princess' characters, celestia and luna were literally the gods, i think that the wings and horns combo should have stayed exclusive to them. also, lauren faust has expressed how much she hates alicorn twilight, and has said that she intended for twilight to be celestia's successor in some way, but never meant that twilight would become an alicorn, or even a princess.

one thing that i would like to mention is that i like how the coronation adds a whole moral dilemma to twilight's character, about whether or not she's deserving of being a princess, and if she's even up to the job. i think it adds some good depth to her character.
overall i think that some good things have come out of twilight becoming an alicorn, but i think the show could've went in a more interesting direction. i would've liked to see lauren faust's original ideas, but sadly she left the show </3
