The Wolf Among Us

I have always been fascinated by the works of the Telltale games. Since the release of the Walking Dead Season 1, I am religiously playing the whole tetralogy. But for a while, due to the personal circumstances that surrounded me, I had to take a break. However, yesterday I embraced the warmth of one of the Telltale games, The Wolf Among Us. And since then I have had some feelings to feel, and experiences to experience.

What impressed me most is the intertextuality of the game. The source material forms a dialogue with the adapted media that is not merely "pastiche" or "parody" but instead, it is a competent adaptation. What I mean by that is that instead of "moving the parts of the text with a loyalty to the source text" (pastiche) or "altering the parts of the text with the intent of undermining the ideology of the source text" (parody) The Wolf Among Us is moving beyond those binarisms, and forms its unique sincerity. One can call it a New Sincere expression in the form of a video game.

Another thing I appreciate about the game is how it treats the female/non-trans women characters. They are treated with dignity and respect not necessarily by the characters but by the integrity of the producers. They could easily be reduced to mere South Park levels of hostile representations. In other words, types. Yet those characters have their own aspirations, and their own unique motives, even though they are reflecting the characteristics of the source text of the source text still their mannerisms are uniquely contemporary and impactful.

I will write more about it, if I feel it.
