I've been revisiting Minecraft Alpha and Beta today. I've become disenchanted with modern Minecraft's direction as of late, though its not bad. But updates lately have been lackluster and I'm not a fan of the new artstyle they're pushing.
I feel like old Minecraft had something about it that made it great. It was more whimsical, felt like it had somewhat of an old fantasy tinge to it. It was more personal.
The world generation was just better, even if it lacked many biomes. Even the caves and cliffs update pales in comparison to what you could find in the old versions.
Updates seemed to be more deliberate and thought out and felt more exciting than they do now.
The game felt like more of a sandbox than it does now too, it was more limited, but that made it easier to be creative I suppose?
I'm sure I am being very nostalgic here, but I also do think that the game has lost something over the years.

I agree!!
While in a technical sense the graphics have improved, idk there was something more unique and dreamy about the look of older Minecraft
But I’m also a very nostalgic person lol

I agree 100%. I started to lose interest in the game around the 1.6.2 version, every now and then I play the newer versions with my friends but something feels off and idk why..
In any case when I feel like playing Minecraft again I will always do it on my favorite versions: Alpha 1.1.2_01 and Alpha 1.2.6, I would like to play these versions with someone but none of my friends are interested-
i played alpha 1.2.6 yesterday and found it enjoyable. id play it with people too but i dont know how to go about making a server. also sadly skins dont work on old versions

They work actually! But to get them to work you have to use the MultiMC launcher and download the SkinFix mod

ur right about this-- minecraft is so corporate now, and it's so much worse if you play bedrock and see all of the annoying microtransactions and general sanitation of it.
b1.7.3 is the best, of course-- it gets really boring though. i prefer to play 1.6.4 or 1.7.10 with a litany of mods; it's still old feeling but refreshing and fun.

Beta 1.0 is the best
