do any high schools do this

I remember as a kid I watched so many shows where the characters were in gym class and had to climb the rope (the only one coming to mind rn is that so raven). Before i started high school i was TERRIFIED of being forced to climb that rope. But then four years went by and there was no rope climbing to speak of 

is that a thing in any high school? or a complete myth? i always assumed that was something that they actually did in the 80s and then someone got seriously injured one day and all schools got rid of it.
