D-Frag! and GJ-Bu First Impressions

D-Frag! and GJ-Bu are two similar anime I watched around the same time, and I enjoyed them both! In this article, I’ll go over my first impressions of both anime.

Wish this pink-haired girl got more screen time.

I was quite excited to watch D-Frag for a variety of reasons. The opening song was made by IOSYS, which is one of my all-time favorite music groups. They made Cirno’s Perfect Math Class, which was the song that made me obsess over Cirno for over 12 years and is on a lot of official rhythm games. This anime appears to be about making board games, but all it’s really known for is shenanigans. New Game has a similar premise, but with making video games. And After School Dice Club has a couple episodes that focus on creating board games. I remember liking the animation at the time, and Roka was adorable! She’s voiced by the legendary Kana Hanazawa in the original Japanese and Bryn Apprill in the English dub. I watched the subbed version, though I thought the dub version would also be fun to watch. Did you know that the main character’s name in D-Frag is Kazuma? No relation to KONOSUBA’s Kazuma. Also worth noting is that I did watch some Baccano! and My Little Monster before watching D-Frag! All three of these anime are made by the same studio: Brain’s Base. I have yet to finish the former 2 anime.

At least this pink-haired girl got plenty of screen time.Like D-Frag! I thought the animation of GJ-Bu was great. It is a Doga Kobo anime after all. Compared to most other anime with a central male character in a predominantly female cast, GJ-Bu is chill and light-hearted. It’s like Haganai minus the fanservice and character depth. Believe it or not, I discovered this anime through Akinator. I wanted to see what would happen if he tried to guess some random blonde anime girl. Usually, I discover new anime through people recommending it, browsing MyAnimeList to find anime I may like, or checking anime news. Sometimes I discover anime through fan art, gifs, or clips on YouTube. But discovering anime through Akinator is one of the most unorthodox methods. It’s still not as chaotic as discovering anime through randomizers.Cutest tall blonde girl in anime eats a lot of meatD-Frag and GJ-Bu are pretty similar to each other. Both are bright and cute school club anime with slightly different vibes. D-Frag is more comedic, and GJ-Bu is more laid-back. D-Frag is about a games club that’s more like a whatever club, whereas GJ-Bu is about a whatever club that mainly stays in one room. I also took a lot of screenshots of both anime since they had lots of funny and memorable moments.
