Let's use Splatoon 3 as an example for game covers. We have...
Normal, colourful, swag.
But it is...
REVERSIBLE!
Note: Even the SPINE looks different, rocking a green colour. Nice touch.
I think reversible covers can be good when done well. Most the time it doesn't fit well, I don't think it was meant to be reversed, most the time at least.
Box art is very important, make something eye catching people will notice. Nintendo is good at that because they don't make those grim, first person, linear, copycat battle royale games. Yeah, I said it.
Nintendo is GREAT when it comes to colourful box art. Even when it's a third-party game developer, they still get the mood just right. Even on the CARTRIDGES believe it or not. Splatoon being ANOTHER prime example.
Go check out your game boxes for reversible covers! It can change the mood of you're into more... quiet covers. Well, quiet is an overstatement, it's not always monotone on the otherside. Mario Odyssey had song lyrics with a bright red background. Pretty cool.
