As for Edison's Frankenstein, I think the creation of the monster is a highlight. But of practical effects brilliance. Okay, the science may not be explained, but what do you want for a 1910 12-minute film?
As I understand it, the mocked up a dummy, burned it, and then ran the footage backwards to show the monster 'forming'.
