How 2 Read???

I want to get into reading books again but I'm unsure of where to start. Not even gonna lie I spend my days reading fanfic most of the time but when I tell people I enjoy reading they're just like "Oh, well what do you read" DUDE IM NOT TELLING!!!
So, the solution would be of course to read normal books but I struggle finding them a lot of the time. I've never actually ventured down the reading side of the internet. I enjoy short reads and long things intimidate me but I adore fantasy type of crap. I borrowed a childrens version of The Hobbit from my campus library (yes, I look in the kids section.) And I like that type of stuff!!
I haven't read warrior cats in forever, but that type of stuff is awesome too, I think. I wonder if I should just stick with juvenile reads or move onto other adult stuff, BUT WHYYY MUST ADULT BOOKS BE BIG, maybe I'm just not searching in the right sections??

Anyways... I'm going to make it a goal to read a bunch of CLASSICS. Like, the original Dracula. The FULL thing, which I have a physical copy of. Dante's Inferno. Maybe some psychology books because I think Freuds theories are really cool. And maybe sneak in a vampire romance novel, lol. I know im missing some. If you guys have any really cool book recs (or even fanfic / manga recs, idc) THROW THEM AT MEEE!

i feel this in my soul. I barely ever read anything that’s not fanfiction.

I read a lot when i worked as a lifeguard. No wifi meant my phone would not last all day.

Have you heard of light novels? They’re kinda like manga, Japanese stories but in a literary format. They tend to be less long than typical American novels, but end up being series with lots of entries.

When it comes to books, actual books, I have to go physical, personally. I love reading on the floor at the bookstore!

One thing I did was continue a series I started as a child but never finished. I enjoyed that a lot. Nostalgia re-reading the beginning.

Sorry for the ten million year long response. BUT, YEAHA I've heard of light novels mentioned briefly before. I feel like those could be my jam too. :3 Theres something really awesome about physical books over reading online or from tablets, so I agree too. DO YOU HAVE ANY RECOMENDATIONS?? Like, artists probably, because I wouldn't even know where to start. ;_;

The thing you do if you haven't read in a while but want to train your brain to be able to follow longform stories again is to start with something familiar. Something you loved when you were younger and already sort of know the general plot of. I reread The Hunger Games a few years ago (it consumed my life when I was in high school, lol) and that was kind of my reintroduction to reading actual books again. Then immediately after that I read Dune, which was the first new thing I finished since I was a teenager.

Also, if you want book recs: Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko (YA, African-inspired fantasy with a lot of political intrigue, struggle against destiny vibes, and some very impressive worldbuilding) and Winter Tide by Ruthanna Emrys (adult, Lovecraftian but specifically in a way Lovecraft would hate, follows the last survivors of a Deep One genocide as they try to rebuild their community) are two of the best I've read this year.

I used to watch the original Doraemon anime all the time as a kid, its become a fever dream. xD I've never taken the time to read the manga but I wouldn't mind it at all, I love older manga styles too. Doraemon looks so cute in the screenshots I see-

Gideon the Ninth is really fun! I’d also rec the lord of the rings trilogy if you wanna get into the classics. Plays the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy if you’re into sci fi/comedy

Gideon the Ninth seems interesting. :o ALSO, I LOVE THE LORD OF THE RINGS MOVIES IVE ONLY READ LITTLE SNIPPETS OFF TUMBLR BECUASE IM A LAZY HAG, But I'll definitely look for the original eventually or nap at the local library, because I know the films miss a LOT especially the random singing, HEHE.
