Today's already gotten off to a bad start. I got locked out of the house by accident, my parents are fighting, and my stomach isn't reacting very well to the coffee I had with my toast. As someone dealing with severe depression, it is so important to me for every morning to start quietly and, if not happily, at least in a relaxing way. This, as you can see, isn't exactly the case.
To try and make myself feel at least a little better, I'll try and list a couple good things. Normally I list these in my actual physical journal, but I figured it'd be fun for people here to read what I have going on, and maybe find inspiration and use my technique to try and make themselves feel better too.
My therapist suggested naming good, positive things that have happened to me, either today or at least recently. So I want to give that a try. I've written two songs in the past few days, and both of them are liked a whole lot by my friends. I listened to an excellent Radiohead record, "A Moon Shaped Pool", which now means I only have one record left by the band ("The King of Limbs") before I've completed the band's full discography. I also finished a really good book about the Band, "This Isn't Happening" by Steven Hyden. It's controversial within the community itself, but I found it to be a very informative and decent read that made me think a lot about not just the band, but the music industry and post-9/11 pop culture in general. I've had such a good time with all my Spacehey friends, too. I haven't really found many good, healthy communities, and Spacehey has definitely helped me.
I might write the more personal positive qualities in my personal journal. Even just writing all these smaller, more art-based things, though, has cheered me up somewhat. My therapist was right, I suppose. I'll need to write more of these.
