Just a really quick blog post that I wanted to write up, because it's been bothering me a lot and I don't think it fits in with what I'd write in my actual journal.
So, the 2022 Sight and Sound poll results officially came out! If you dont know what that is, the Sight and Sound poll is where many of the filmmakers and film critics that we hold in high regard vote for what they think are the 100 greatest films of all time. It's held every ten years, which makes this a big event for film geeks like me.
This blog isn't really about the results, though. There's kind of a good reason why. If you go on my Letterboxd, it'll say that I've only seen 10 of the 100 films that were officially voted into the list. So I could easily argue for Taxi Driver and why it should've gotten #2, but I cannot argue for Jeanne Dielman and how it deserved #1, as I have not seen it.
After I realized that I've seen so few of these "big" films, I started to think about how poor my movie watching habits are for someone who claims to adore movies. Outside of The Batman, Everything Everywhere All At Once, and Top Gun Maverick, I haven't watched a whole lot of 2022 films. In terms of film classics, I have not watched many. I have around 606 films currently logged into my letterboxd, and over half of them are certainly films I watched as a kid that I haven't seen in a decade.
When I do try and sit down and try to watch movies, however, I find a LOT of difficulty focusing and following along with the story without immediately switching off and just watching Kitboga videos on Youtube.
It's honestly starting to get to the point where I feel like a poser, and that I don't really care about the actual movies. I'll follow the Oscar Race and be an avid viewer of the internet chaos of the frontrunners battling it out, but I'll rarely ever watch the actual films. It's really starting to get to me, and I really wish I didn't have such difficulty watching movies.
That's really all this blog is, just a big and messy post about my frustration with attention. Thanks if you've been reading, I don't really know why you would.
As I do with all my blogs, I'd also like to make a shoutout to another Spacehey profile! I highly recommend friending Hikari, a really sweet friend of mine. She's a Linux genius, so if you have any computer or programming issues that you need help with, I highly recommend chatting with her! She's amazing company.
