english literature lesson

My English literature teacher got annoyed at me because it was a library lesson today and I was drawing in my notebook. She was like "[insert name here] while whatever you're doing is quiet; it's not what you should be doing." I looked in the graphic novel section for 10 minuets then gave up and went back to drawing in my notebook. I'm a very visual kind of person, so regular books don't give me that whole opening to another universe vibe that is constantly advertised. She noticed that I was drawing again and tried to give my recommendations, except all her recommendations were romance novels that were recommended by one of the librarians and were just lying on a table. I just wanted to draw a picture of my main OC with his skin ripped of but noooooooo, reading is important apparently even though not everyone is going to be into staring at sheets of bleached tree skin with ink on. We argued for about 5 minuets, and meanwhile the people at the nearby table started to quietly laugh for some reason. At one point she recommended me to go ask the librarians for recommendations, but I imagine it wouldn't get as far as this conversation so I just sat there, silently. Eventually she gave me her copy of the Shakespeare play we're studying in school (I can't find my copy at home and probably never will) which I stared at until the lesson ended because how am I supposed to read Shakespearean English? It's all fancy and wordy.

I swear to god, why does school keep telling you that reading is good for you and that everyone should do it. It's a hobby thing, not everyone likes to read fiction books and by making it mandatory (like it was in primary school) more peopel are just going to hate it.
