Human Influence

The platypus is facing habitat lose.

he eastern Australian continent and Tasmania were formerly home to a thriving platypus population. But the future of this exceptional monotreme is in jeopardy because to the ongoing threat of predators, pollution, drought, and bushfires. In Sydney's Royal National Park, they now run the risk of going extinct locally, which is alarming. Over the past 30 years, platypus numbers have decreased by roughly 31% in places like the Murray-Darling Basin. In some metropolitan catchments close to Melbourne, their population has dropped by up to 65%. This downward trend must stop. Today is the day to act.

This graph shows thwe rise and fall in both captures and sightings of the platypus, throughout the years 2003-2006.

How can you help?

You can adopt a platypus from wwf that allows them to buy equipment and restore the environment and their habitat.
By donating to Australian conservation foundation you can help in getting rid of finding more forest friendly ways of getting energy.
