Music Reviews 10/18 - 10/31

I skipped a week. More spooky stuff than usual, not that that's saying much, heh.

Deep Purple - Burn: Some of the more bluesy stuff is kinda boring. 6.5/10
Sunny Day Real Estate - Diary: It both makes its drone-y-ness work and wears out its welcome often. 5/10
The Vapors - New Clear Days: All of the songs have something to them, but only a few stand out. 7/10
Kryptos - Force of Danger: A few songs end up kinda flat, but none of them are wholly so. 7/10
Minor Threat - Discography: The latter EPs are generally less bland, though McKaye stays pretty flat throughout. 5.5/10
Charged G.B.H. - City Baby Attacked By Rats: I like some songs, but most are just noisy and repetitive. 6.5/10
Judas Iscariot - To Embrace the Corpses Bleeding: I wouldn't call it the most distinctive or even atmospheric album out there, but it is good. 7/10
Solitude Aeturnus - Beyond the Crimson Horizon: A few songs have uneven atmosphere. 8/10
Devil - Time To Repent: Less experimental than Witchfinder General, but a similar idea. 8/10
Dio - Killing the Dragon: There's certainly filler, but they're alright. The whole album seems a bit tired aside from a few standouts. 6.5/10
Hammerschmitt - Hammerschmitt: Incredibly intense from start to finish, never boring. Is both air-guitarable and atmospheric. 9.5/10
From First to Last - Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has A Bodycount: A few songs were not quite as memorable, but each was extremely solid. 9/10
Funeral for A Friend - Casually Dressed & Deep in Conversation: Drags. 8.5/10
Candlemass - Tales of Creation: Maybe a few songs are uneven or even classify as filler, but each is distinct and so well done. 9/10
Thin Lizzy - Thunder and Lightning: I don't think there is filler here. 9/10
Tredegar - Tredegar: The sound can be rather flat and the performances stumble on rare ocassion. 8/10
Black Tears - Child of the Storm: Some songs are a little rock'n'roll, but they make good mid-paced "biker" metal, and each song is very distinct. 8/10
Cinema Strange - Cinema Strange: Kind of drags and some blends too much. 7/10
Good Charlotte - The Chronicles of Life and Death: The second half is much more focused on softer songs, so it is pretty imbalanced. 7.5/10
The Used - The Used: idk, it's hard to get into for me. Doesn't draw me overall, but some songs are okay, nothing's offensive. 6/10Β
Samhain - November-Coming-Fire: Some boring songs in the beginning. Later half is more decent but only two I think are really good. 6/10
Armor for Sleep - What To Do When You're Dead: Tends to sound very plain. It is commendable though, and a few tracks do stand out. 6.5/10
King Diamond - Voodoo: A bit obviously rehashed. 6.5/10
King Diamond - Fatal Portrait: The only weird thing is the fact it's a half-concept album. Otherwise; raw, evil and every song is awesome. 9/10
Death SS - ...In Death of Steve Sylvester: Not always as intensely spooky as it can be. 7.5/10Β
Sign of the Jackal - Break the Spell: Outside of the first 10 minutes or so and the last song, it kind of flops around. 6.5/10
Abysmal Grief - Misfortune: Kind of drones sometimes, and is a bit background-y, but makes up for it in such a dark performance. 8/10
