Blog #1 - Some New Movies

My first blog entry... pretty cool huh? Every Saturday you'll get a new one, so you should probably subscribe to my blog.

With that out of the way, let's move on.

This week was quite uneventful. Same old same old, therapy, testing, you get it. However this week, I watched a few new movies, so I thought I'd review them as this weeks blog entry.

Whiplash (2014): 10/10

What can I say? It's a seriously great movie. The only reason I reduced a 10/10 score by half a point was simply because I wish it was even longer and had more story! A very investing movie. Here's the synopsis (provided by Google):

Andrew Neiman (Miles Teller) is an ambitious young jazz drummer, in pursuit of rising to the top of his elite music conservatory. Terence Fletcher (J.K. Simmons), an instructor known for his terrifying teaching methods, discovers Andrew and transfers the aspiring drummer into the top jazz ensemble, forever changing the young man's life. But Andrew's passion to achieve perfection quickly spirals into obsession, as his ruthless teacher pushes him to the brink of his ability and his sanity.

This movie proves that determination is everything. I see myself in the main character, Andrew, quite a bit. Maybe that's why I like it. The ending was just incredible as well. I 100% recommend this film.

The Truman Show (1998): 7/10

Ah, The Truman Show, the movie everyone and their mother saw because Jim Carrey was in it. Besides that, The Truman Show is an interesting film about a life that maybe even you've been scared of living in. I give this film only a 7/10 purely because I wish this movie was more trippy, a little more than just a PG rating. Would've been cool. Here's the synopsis (provided by Google):

He doesn't know it, but everything in Truman Burbank's (Jim Carrey) life is part of a massive TV set. Executive producer Christof (Ed Harris) orchestrates "The Truman Show," a live broadcast of Truman's every move captured by hidden cameras. Cristof tries to control Truman's mind, even removing his true love, Sylvia (Natascha McElhone), from the show and replacing her with Meryl (Laura Linney). As Truman gradually discovers the truth, however, he must decide whether to act on it.

This film is so eerie, despite how goddamn colorful it is. The thought that someone could spend their entire life like that is a terrifying one. However if they could've bumped the film up to a PG-13... could've been better. The ending scene was iconic though. I recommend this film, how could you not recommend a classic?

Mysterious Skin (2004): 10/10

Yep, you see that right, a 10/10 rating. This film portrays the heartbreaking reality of CSA between two very different boys. I don't cry at many movies, but this was one of them. Here's the synopsis (provided by Google):

One youth (Brady Corbet) becomes obsessed with UFOs, while another (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) becomes a gay hustler in the years following a childhood trauma.

Okay so short summary, but it's okay. This film is pretty graphic in nature (NC-17 rating, if you're curious). While I do recommend, be warned that it is pretty hard to watch. The ending scene has to one of the most heartbreaking scenes in film.

I also started watching Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind (2004), however I didn't finish it. I find Clementine hard to watch through, and the timeline confusing. I'll try to watch it again soon, and I'll update you guys next week.

Thanks for reading my blog you guys, I hope you enjoyed reading, and I hope you have some new movies to watching. Until next time...
