After a long year I can finally say that we are onΒ Halloween Season,Β and I love that. This celebration is basically almost starting, and because of that I want to write a little about two classic horror movies that I watched some years ago.
Β
First of all, I have to admit that I've always felt interested in everything that were a little dark, creepy or horrific. However, I remember doing so mostly with English spoken stuff (With series like Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Goosebumps and movies like Coraline and Beetlejuice as well), and that, as a person that has Spanish as his first language was kind of conflicting, because there was a lot of good creations made on Latin America, but I was just ignoring them to prioritize foreign films.
Β
About some years ago, I started watching more things created by Latin American people. It was so shocking to know that there were so many horror/terror movies filmed in Mexico during the 1950-1980's.Β
Β
One of them, for example, wasΒ El VampiroΒ (1957) by Fernando MΓ©ndez, that tells the story, as you may expect, of the count and vampire Karol de Lavud (a.k.a. Duval) and his desire of a woman called Marta that just arrived on Puebla. It has its own sequel calledΒ El ataΓΊd del vampiroΒ (1958), but that's for another day.

Β

Β

At the same time,Β Hasta el viento tiene miedoΒ (1968) by Carlos Enrique Taboada it's also a really good way to enter into the horror stuff. It narrates the story of a group of girls in a boarding school and a ghost that wants to murder the director of that place, because she wasΒ indirectly guilty of her death.

Β

Β

Alongside these movies, I recommend you some titles like:Β La tΓa Alejandra;Β Alucarda, la hija de las tinieblas;Β El libro de piedraΒ andΒ Veneno para las hadas.
Β
Finally, to close this entry, I just want to invite all of the readers to look it up at the stuff created by their own cultures, whether those are local, national or international. It's a new way to discover things. It's fun.
Β
And of course, I do wish you all a very ooky dooky spooky day! Pumpkins for everyone.
Β
P.S.: I know I said two movies but well, just one more.Β La casa loboΒ (2018)Β is a Chilean animated film based on Colonia Dignidad, a colony founded by Germans on Chile where horrible things happened. Tells the story about a girl who's having trouble after scaping it. You may want to know more about (and this one has english subtitles!)
