Hello again, Crurned here. If you took some time reading my profile, I mentioned that I am hooked up on retro music like Synthwave, and also on Country music. I forgot to mention I am not mentioning country music as the commercial stuff you hear on radio. I am into outlaw country, which is mostly compared to what it was known as "gangsta rap", also I apologize in advance for including bluegrass into country music. If you feel offended, I understand.
Ok, so I am starting my list of favorite musicians by genre. I will start with synthwave and then I will mention country/bluegrass:
Timecop1983
Timecop1983 is perhaps one of the best melodic artist when it comes to the synthwave genre. As the name implies, it is inspired by the classic Van Damme film of the same name, and I also like this artist because it used my year of birth in the name. My recommended song is Tonight, I recommend to listen the featured vocal version, it is simply magical and nostalgic.
The Midnight
The Midnight is another synthwave band that got me enthralled with their vocals and high energy tunes. My favorite song is Vampires. The Midnight songs are excellent to play while driving down the highway at dusk, preferably driving on a road near a coastline or a beach.
Mitch Murder
Mitch Murder is a bit more like the type of music you would hear on an early 8 or 16 bit video game console, with a darker twist. I think it is called darksynth. However, this artist is more versatile and my favorite song from this band is slightly scary at points, but what isn't nowadays... hehehe... I recommend a few bangers from Mitch Murder below:
In the News
Remember When
Interceptor (it has an awesome music video, this is why I compare Mitch Murder's music to video game console soundtrack)
Trevor Something
All Night is my favorite, if you can search some music videos online, someone synced the music to shots inside a nightclub back in the mid 80s. It goes very well.
FM Attack
FM Attack are bit more girlish, which I think this type of synthwave is known as dreamwave. My favorite songs are:
Magic
Robert Parker
The music sounds like something you will hear in an 80s corporate type of film like Wall Street. My favorite songs are
Success is the best revenge
Money Talks
Lost Love
85 Again
Now we go into the outlaw country/bluegrass favorite list of artists, and some of their songs.
The Highwaymen (Outlaw country)
This superband had Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Chris Christopherson, and the man in black himself, Johnny Cash. I feel bad I didn't know they sang together under the Highwaymen until I listened to their music in GTA V. My favorite songs are many, from the top of my head:
The Highwaymen
American Remains
Pancho and Lefty
The Road Goes on Forever
Colter Wall (Outlaw Country)
This dude is like in his early 20s, at least 10 or 15 years younger than me, he is Canadian (Saskatchewan) and he already has a deep voice enough to challenge the late Johnny Cash. The songs I like the most from Mr. Wall are:
Kate McCannon
Living on the Sand
Cowpoke
Gangstagrass (bluegrass)
This band caught me off guard. The main singer is into hip hop, and brings that twist into the songs. They also arranged songs for the TV show Justified. My favorite songs are:
I'm gonna put you down
I go hard
The Builders and the Butchers (Gothic Folk/Country)
This band's music hits hard. I heard they are still around but the music is barely a shadow of their original work. Here is a list of songs from the top of my head:
Spanish Death
Golden and Green
Bringing home the Rain
Old Crow Medicine Show (Folk/Bluegrass/Country)
I heard from this band on the now defunct radio show Prairie Home Companion. My favorite songs are:
I hear them all
Take Em Away
Big Time in the Jungle
The Dead South (Gothic Country/Folk)
This is another Canadian group. They also made some country covers for some heavy metal songs like Chop Suey
My favorite songs are
Bastard Son
In Hell I'll be in good company
Broken Cowboy
Honorable mentions to other bands/musicians
Ryan Bingham - Southside of Heaven
Dwight Yonakam - Streets of Bakersfield
Merle Haggard - Fightin Side of Me
