Naturally their feathers are white. to gain the red tint these birds apply red soil to their feathers, which could be a symbol of status!
Their unique diet!
These vultures do not eat how other species do, 80-90% of the time their food on the menu is bones! While other scavenger birds eat the meat and leave bones behind, these birds are basically the clean up crew.
How they prepare their gourmet meal:
Bearded vultures take the bones from a carcass and hit/drop them on a rock which breaks the bones into tiny pieces which makes them suitable for swallowing.
