Once upon a time an astral projector became so powerful that he could make others view him as a god, and follow his will as the will of a god. His mind essentially totally colonized that of his followers, such that their sense of self was overridden by the demands of the egregore the APer projected.

This occurred many times independently, and eventually the God-forms would meet and sometimes cooperate under a mutual pantheon, but mostly competed for mind, soul, and land share. Wars would be fought under the banner of a god, which usually had established some mutualistic relationship with the tribal organism (the state.)

Through history the war of the Gods was fought, an arms race of figuring out the methods to penetrate and manipulate the human mind and spirit as powerfully as possible.

The gods would eventually be joined by economic corporations who similarly fed on mind-share, and together would accelerate the process of war between gods further.

The internet is nothing less than a tear in the astral world, a communicative portal to the most addictive drug of all time. The internet has hyper-accelerated competition between entities that exist by manipulating human consciousness for self-serving ends - the worst possible demons humanity can imagine.

The outcome is total global psychological warfare. Who the hell thought that starting a competition to twist human minds was a good thing?
