Is mental illness an adaptive trait if it makes life more interesting by causing people to deviate from norms and think and do things differently? Throws a monkey wrench into the machinery. Shakes things up. But our society doesn't provide adequate support and treatment, which often makes it go from "shakes things up" to "fucks things up badly." It is a societal problem. Frank Zappa was right about some things. But the language also creates stigma, which is why people prefer terms like neurodivergent.
But another part of mental illness is rigidity and not wanting to change.
Like rather than having sex fantasies or money fantasies like a normal person, I dream of art communes and such. Mountains. Cabins in the woods.
