earthlings by sayaka murata review

I cannot say I love it or hate it. nor that I am attached to it. I feel for it when conformity chokes me till I couldn't recognize how to breathe the patterns I was born with; when regaining the pattern becomes a poison that I blissfully drown with. I no longer breathe the air, but I am safe in my own space outside where conforming is spat out. earthling is never to be taken lightly unless you have the careful humor for it to be never romanticized or to be simplified to fit a sentence. it is a complex story with social commentary in between; mainly for confirming society's pressure to start a family with a "happy" marriage. a woman's perspective is the greatest lens to truly capture this sentiment, thus, making the book compelling to read until the plot twist in the last few chapters and to the very end.

I do not recommend reading it though, but I do not discourage you from doing so. just be mindful of the trigger warnings:

GRAPHIC: Pedophilia(oral s*x scene, and also attempt of grooming), Cannibalism, Incest, Murder

Other/s: Gaslighting, Child Abuse(verbally)
