シブヤROCKTRANSFORMED状態, A Random Review

Writing this on a whim and need some writing practice lol.

Number Girl's シブヤROCKTRANSFORMED状態 is the answer to the new age of incoming post-hardcore bands in Japan.

The live album captures some of the most passionate moments of Number Girl performances before their eventual final live album サッポロOMOIDE IN MY HEAD, in 2003. Though, this recording of the band, which was in a rather medium-sized, maybe smaller venue hall in Shibuya, is just at the right amount of noise and passion, which I feel would prove a great starting point for someone getting into Number Girl. Though it might just be me wanting to push that since I started listening to Number Girl from this album itself, all the way back to good ol' late 2020 quarantine. This is one of those albums that I feel you should listen to the band's other material before actually taking it in for what it really holds up, which is no case because this is a live album. So of course, shilling School Girl Distortional Addict, which in my view is Number Girl's highest point in melodic songwriting.

All that being said, this album is a monster full of energy from front to back. It takes the greatest picks of Number Girl's discog at the time, consisting of Distortional Addict, singles and B-Sides, and even a few tracks from their indie debut, School Girl Bye Bye. And fucking hell I would be lying if these songs weren't performed well.

「渋谷炎上するか, 渋谷炎上するか」, "Will Shibuya burn? Will Shibuya Burn? Words spoken by the vocalist of the band, Shutoku Mukai, before transitioning to Samurai, one of Number Girl's traditional punky tracks. The whole album sonically reeks of angst and rebellion, the screeches of the line deliveries by the vocalists, the distant but noisy mixing of the guitar, bass, drums. タッチ、YOUNG GIRL SEVENTEEN SEXUALLY KNOWING, IGGY POP FAN CLUB, I would just be listing the entire tracklist if I have to, just a blast of emotion each track, and it never gets boring. Everything about the atmosphere of the live album is perfect for a teenage rebellion in the making. OMOIDE IN MY HEAD in this album is the perfect anthem for drowning in reminiscence, 日常に生きる少女 plays out like an emo track like something from Sunny Day Real Estate, or a more emotional The Promise Ring. SUPER YOUNG is just straight emo.

I feel that I rambled on too much, so in short: The greatest live post-hardcore album to rebel to.  (or something like that)
