Shirobako, Yuki Yuna is a Hero, and Shomin Sample Final Thoughts #TBT

This Throwback Thursday is good because I will talk about not just one, not two, but three different anime! All three of these anime were finished on the same day: April 1, 2016. Anyway, I will talk about Shirobako, Yuki Yuna is a Hero, and Shomin Sample.

Shirobako

Shirobako was one of those anime where I went like, “I enjoyed it, and I get why people love this anime. However, it’s not the amazing anime I thought it was going to be. It’s still a great anime, though.” Shirobako stands out for having a wide variety of adult characters, and the main character was able to make friends with everyone in the studio she works for. It’s such a shame that you can’t watch this anime on Crunchyroll anymore. The only way to watch it legally in the U.S. is to buy it on iTunes.

When it comes to workplace anime, Shirobako really focuses on the work aspect of the anime. Most other workplace anime focus on non-work-related moments and antics. As someone who basically has Kobayashi-san’s/Nakano’s (Senko-san) job with the added luxury of working from home, work is heavy and demanding. I needed to become attentive and proactive. There have been ups and downs with my job, but I am handling it just fine. In fact, I just read the first volume of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon maid, and I can relate a lot more to Kobayashi.

Yuki Yuna is a Hero

Yuki Yuna is a Hero was one of those anime where I wished I blogged about every single episode. So much stuff has happened, and talking about this anime in detail would definitely be going into spoiler territory. Also, the Yuki Yuna franchise has grown a lot since I watched it. A lot of people compare Yuki Yuna is a Hero to Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Sadly, I haven’t talked much about Yuki Yuna is a Hero, and I’ve forgotten enough to the point where I can rewatch it and still be wowed by its twists. Also, there was a specific moment from Episode 10 which I thought was cute.

More moments involving magic tricks should appear in anime.

Shomin Sample

And finally, there’s Shomin Sample, the last Fall 2015 anime I watched. This was such a fun anime to watch! There were so many moments I liked, and I wish it got a Season 2. Of those three anime, I enjoyed Shomin Sample the most, even though it’s harder to recommend the other two anime. Shirobako is for all anime fans. Yuki Yuna is a Hero is for Madoka Magica fans. And Shomin Sample is for ecchi harem fans.

I’m not sure if there are more ecchi harem fans than Madoka Magica fans in 2022. But then, there are people who are both Madoka Magica fans and ecchi harem fans. I once saw a forum thread on MyAnimeList where one person was sad that ecchi harem anime is dead, and yes, ecchi harem anime got isekai’d in the late 2010s. A part of me misses anime like this, even though I haven’t watched a lot of ecchi harems because I was trying to avoid them. It was part of the anime zeitgeist from 10 years ago.

Still, if you want a non-action ecchi harem anime, then you’ll enjoy Shomin Sample.
