It’s November, and I want to be more serious about two things: Playing Video Games and Watching Anime. As today is November 3rd, I feel that it’s extremely important that I have things to do when I am free. Recently, I haven’t been doing a good job with watching anime and playing games, and that’s because I’ve been using NovelAI’s stable diffusion a lot. Why watch anime when I can just have a computer program create anime art for me? The novelty of AI art wears out quickly, and it ended up completely dominating my free time. I usually have nothing planned or nothing exciting planned, so I end up generating AI art. I should make plans to get better at games and watch more anime.
I want to get to the roots of why I became an anime fan. Basically, I stumbled across anime through channel surfing and became a Pokemon fan, but I didn’t know about the word “anime” until a few years later. And then I fell in love with the style. I couldn’t really get into anime due to how PG-13 most anime and manga are. But because of how much time I spent on the internet, I became a Touhou fan. Touhou has some of my favorite character designs of all time, and only a small percentage of anime have character designs that are similar to Touhou.
Looking back at the kind of stuff I watch, I mainly watched shows aimed at older kid’s like Spongebob, The Fairly Odd Parents, The Powerpuff Girls, and Pokemon. As a teenager, I really didn’t watch any TV thanks to YouTube. One of my favorite early YouTubers was MarioMario54321. I became a huge Battle For Dream Island fan in late 2012. When I got into anime about 2 years later, I only wanted to watch the cutest anime. It doesn’t matter what the anime was about as long as it’s not extremely inappropriate. If it’s cute, then I should watch it. There was also that one time in 2020 when I wasn’t into anything with a story. I was extremely busy with college.
Now that I have a real job, I’m past the phase where I enjoy watching things for their plot/story. While I loved watching Mob Psycho 100 II, it doesn’t feel fulfilling. Anime doesn’t excite me the way it did several years ago. This is why I ultimately decided to not watch Mob Psycho 100 III this season. I prefer more episodic anime, as they’re better for people with busier lives and shorter attention spans. I am not going to drop Dragon Ball. That sounds insane. I will keep watching Sgt. Frog, as it is an episodic anime with no real plot and does a good job at making me laugh. Spy x Family is awesome as it mixes a spy anime with a comedy family slice-of-life anime. It’s nowhere near as intense as Madoka Magica, but for what it does, it’s incredible. LBX Girls is OK so far. I expect it to be slightly less enjoyable than the KanColle anime (Season 1). And Miss Shachiku and the Little Baby Ghost is super cute without having to resort to fanservice. Fittingly, this anime is about a workaholic working in an office. I do not plan on picking up any more anime.
For November 2022, I will continue to play games and watch anime, but I will approach these goals differently. I’ll still watch anime as if it were a chore, and I’ll play games and take it easier.
