♡ things I learned about interviewing people!

Hi! I've been interviewing people as of late and I personally didn't feel satisfied enough with the way I conducted those interviews as I felt I could've brought my interviewees in a space to recognize what aesthetics and media consumptions meant to their identity. Hopefully, you could learn from my mistakes!

Writing down notes helps keep better track of the direction and train of thought your interviewee is going through, noting what may become inconsistencies, and how their answers may change within the span of your interview as people become more vulnerable.

Which leads to my second point, it helps to clarify what your interviewee said in your own words because:

1. it makes sure you guys are on the right page, and;

2. they may realize that there was something that they felt they personally forgot to mention.

Maybe have a test interview with someone? Because even when you think your interview questions are okay enough, at least for me, I realize my questions didn't push my interviewees hard enough to reach into the main goal of aesthetics and identity. Their answers definitely helped and are very useful info! but I wish I was able to push it further and reach deeper, especially in the context that my questions are based on self-identity

Building rappor is something that is always discussed and tossed around when conducting interviews, but GOD I tell you it is so crucial! I personally try doing this by treating interviews like conversations at times, adding my own thoughts and input. Though personally, I'm not really the most charismatic person and I think adding your voice can tamper with your interviewee's choice on what to disclose or it may lead them to believing your stance. But what you want to know is them!
