some more korean learning today

so far im still mostly learning basic phrases/words and the alphabet in general. i didnt learn that many new words today - both lessons were really short - but the words themselves are a bit tricky.

today i learned 안녕히 계세요 and 안녕히 가세요, which mostly mean the same thing but for different contexts - 안녕히 계세요 is good bye for when youre leaving, and 안녕히 가세요 is good bye for when youre staying. i dont remember them by memory yet, but i learned to differentiate them by focusing on the 가 for 안녕히 가세요. one of the main things my mom taught me for studying is to associate words (or certain parts of words) with other similar concepts, especially for learning a new language, and its helping a bit.

(also, as a tip for any other language learners: remember to say words out loud, even if theyre names for objects, like saying 연필 when i pick up a pencil.)

죄송합니다 is `im sorry` in the specific context for apologizing or passing through a crowd (like when you say excuse me when you bump into someone by accident). its the hardest one of the three today i think. the ending part is similar to `thank you` in korean, but i havent really... memorized `thank you` yet either. i need to find a way to memorize them both because i think id get a lot of use out of them when trying to talk in korean.

so far these have been really difficult, but i think that its only a matter of time until i can memorize them. i literally only (re-)started my lessons a week ago, i have to be a bit easier on myself and admit im not an expert on day 1, which has always been a struggle of mine.

well... this blog is really just an excuse to help memorize the things i learned today. 안녕히 계세요.
