quick review of the English edition of Kakashi Retsuden. spoilers of course.
Like usual, a quick but entertaining read. I caught a few translation/editing errors but only one was egregious, better compared to some of the other English novels. The premise of the story is interesting but some of the execution was off and I didn’t like the ending. I liked the idea of Kakashi helping a kid who is a fan of his, and this made for some funny moments, but there were parts that were unrealistic. To start, the kid that Kakashi was helping was just described as a “child” with no age given (but younger than mid-teens) yet had some pretty complicated dialogue. Not the weirdest thing that’s happened in the series, though. The ending was disappointing because instead of teaching his older sister, a queen, how to use a ninja tool that she needed to bring water to the land, kakashi just taught the boy how to do it and he became the king??? it was stated that usually the first born son becomes the next monarch in the kingdom but also his older sister was already the queen (he refused the position for obvious reasons- being a kid) and had some knowledge on being a monarch. weird misogynistic shit going on there. Funny ending scene in a bar was funny. That’s all I have to say about it. Gonna sell it to BookOff for $1 later.
