Norse Mythology

The first two humans, Ask and Embla, were born from the flesh of Ymir, a primordial being. Norse mythology has similar themes of an apocalyptic end. In the aftermath of Ragnarok, a battle between the Gods and their enemies, the world will likely be reborn. This battle will envelop the world in flames and then rebirth it, fertile and green. The earth can be repopulated by two humans once again. Many ancient cultures personified elements of the cosmos, including the sun as Sol, the moon as Mani, and the earth as Joro, another goddess. Day and night were the Vikings' deities that personified the units of time.
