I always figured the stuff i went thru at 16/17 would be the worst of things, and when i passed that then things would be easier. 3 years later and im still trying to fill the holes. I have never been "emo". i like to think im just a guy who likes music. I found "emo" music like2 years ago and fell in love, probably cuz i related to it a lot. I kind of feel like i missed out on growing up with the genre(s), but then i remember i didnt have any need for it or relate to it at all until i was like 16. I was so depressed in highschool but didnt really acknowledge it... i still struggle with it 4 years later but atleast i accept it now. My dad always listened to blink182 and 90s grunge growing up, so i was pretty familiar with those, but when i was 18 I got into poppunk. Sum41 and Green Day were prob my first introduction to it (besides blink). Then I kind of spiraled deeper into the genre. Last year when i was at my lowest and struggling with suixide and a bunch of other stuff, i found midwestemo which def made me more miserable lol xd but i related to it on a very deep level especially the aesthetic and general theme of reflection. Ive always had a problem with nostalgia and watching myself and the things i love grow older. I guess its cuz i dont like change. I also found post hardcore around this time thanks to Knuckle Puck and Tiny Moving Parts. Their vocals are the perfect mix of "mostly clean with a touch of dirt; aggressive but not overbearing." This is still one of my favorite songs and i related to it so much last year. I really felt like a version of myself was singing this to me. https://youtu.be/3l-rY1MByy0

if you like screamo you should check out skramz. skramz used to be screamo but then everybody started calling any music with screaming in it "screamo" so they had to make a new term for it... now ill recommend some similar things, not all necessarily screamo: orchid, pg99, joshua fit for battle, city of caterpillar and reversal of man.
