Millitary Psychologists, Ringworm

Timbre: today was... well it was interesting. cadence got invested in a conversation i was having for the first time in a while, but still sat it out and just listened. guess it was in her ball-park but she didn't want to interrupt and confuse the person we were talking to.

Cadence: I would say it was more like... I'm not sure, I guess it was just... too much. It was definitely the kind of thing I usually like to discuss given our joint planning on the subject matter, but I found it uniquely difficult to articulate my thoughts on this particular conversation.

Timbre: well it's not like i blame you. fuckin hell i could barely speak up for most of it.

Cadence: Anyways, the conversation was was with our professor at our business college. Timbre was discussing our future career plans with the professor after class and ended up speaking on the subject of our plans for forming a nonprofit to help incentivize progressive mental healthcare professionals to work in our region.

Timbre: and apparently he had some specific words to tell on that subject. he said he was interested in the idea because he had some secondhand experience with it. i was thinking "cool i wonder what it is" and he proceeded to tell me about his friends from the military and their experience with psychology

Cadence: So, we learned something rather interesting. Did you know, in the United States military, soldiers are subject to relatively routine psychological evaluations? You probably did. But apparently, soldiers are quickly made aware through experience that any 'mental weakness' shown when speaking with their designated psychologist does not warrant psychological care; it warrants the elimination of their chances at a promotion in the near future. This effectively trains them to never trust psychologists, making sure to pretend they're okay in their presence. Can you imagine what that does to them once they get back home? Being conditioned to treat therapy as a threat to your future?

Timbre: it is so fucked up, especially that we didn't already know this

Ambie: also we got ringworm and we had to declare absence for our later classes because it turns out we have ringworm ;-;

Timbre: yeah also that.
