squid of the day: strawberry squid

the strawberry squid is a delightful critter with a mantle length of about 5 inches. it gets its name from the "freckles" all over its mantle and tentacles that are akin to strawberry seeds on the fruit! weirdly, these dudes have one very large and one very small eye. the larger of the two is used to look upwards for prey shadows, taking in as much light as possible. the smaller looks downwards towards the darker depths to spot bioluminescence.
