squid of the day: glass squid

the glass squid is more specifically a blanket term for multiple squid species, however we'll be formally focusing on chranchia scabra. this little dude grows to about 15cm in length. despite being able to see through its entire body, there's also another cool fact about the glass squid.

when it feels threatened, the glass squid can pull both its head and arms into its mantle, forming a "puffy ball" shape to deter predators.
