going to document my RYM listening journal
☆Maudlin of the Well: Leaving Your Body Map series (overall 9/10)
◇Bath: Very moody and has much much better production than any of the other two albums. Gleam in Ranks is one of the most powerful, driving tracks I've ever heard. Overall a really lush and melodic album interwoven with powerful, progressive metal sections.
◇Leaving Your Body Map: The production is a lot more skeletal than Bath. This album feels a lot more epic, ditching a lot of the melodic sections (excluding the interlude tracks). The use of horns and time signature changes give it a very avant garde feeling, which makes sense for the band being a Kayo Dot side project.
◇(BONUS) My Fruit Psychobells... A Seed Combustible: Not very known in the Maudlin community, being unavailable on streaming. Their 1996 debut features a lot more death metal influence, which, isn't executed as well as it could be. Their sound is still very much being found but the album still manages to be absolutely incredible, like all of their stuff.
