squid of the day: hawaiian bobtail squid

the hawaiian bobtail is without a doubt one of the cutest cephalopods on the planet, measuring at a tiny 3cm! though sizeably insignificant, they are scientifically very interesting as they have developed a symbiotic friendship with bioluminescent bacteria!

the bacteria helps the bobtail to camoflage and evade predators, and at the end of the day the squid jets the bacteria out back to sea, and replenishes once again once it's hiding in sand.
