My Understanding - MULEs - Death Stranding

This only pertains to normal mules. i can't wrap my head around terrorist mules the same way i did these ones.

If you only hear how Die-hardman explains The mules they seem like a really stupid concept. Groups of porters addicted to stealing, hoarding, and delivering cargo. But once you read some of Heartman's Interviews you can understand that its not the cargo that their after its the reward for finding the cargo and delivering it. "likes". When someone is given likes it produces oxytocin which can cause a type of high.

The mules are addicted to the oxytocin produced. In-game just picking up 'lost' cargo gives you small amounts of likes. A cargo is counted as lost when its lying around of falls off someone. mules just force it to fall and take the credit so they can get their next fix. if you want to put words to what the mules are its this: Depressed-Workaholic-Cleptomaniacs
