i may have decieved you all.. the vampire squid is in fact, not a real species of squid. in fact, its the only surviving member of its genus: vampyroteuthis. (which literally just translates to vampire squid)
despite the name, the vampire squid doesn't suck or drink any blood! instead, it got its name from it's dark red colour and "cape" like tentacles. it is in fact the only knwon cephalopod that does not catch live prey, instead eating marine snow. they use the spines located on the inside of their tentacles to ward off predators!

FOR REAL I LOVE EM TOO!! i find it silly that their name literally translates to "vampire squid from hell" but theyre the gentlest goobers
