the bigfin squid is one of the longest squids of all time, clocking an average length of about 21 feet. they're also the deepest dwelling squid known so far, living at depths of around 20,000 feet. these guys have a pretty unforgettable appearance, with extremely long spaghetti arms that are believed to be dragged across the sea floor.
however, their way of life is a total mystery to scientists. so the exact reason why they even need these appendages is largely speculated on. despite their initial weirdness, i think they're pretty cute in their own way!
