Speidi gets political | Book Recommendation

In one of many paparazzi photo ops, The Hills couple Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt hilariously endorse the Republican ticket by wearing John McCain and Sarah Palin campaign clothing and reading You Can Profit from a Monetary Crisis by Henry Brown.

Harry Edson Brown was an American writer, politician, and investment advisor. He was the Libertarian Party's Presidential nominee in the U.S. elections of 1996 and 2000. He authored 12 books that in total have sold more than 2 million copies.

Book Synopsis

In the book, Harry Browne tells the reader his predictions that the dollar's value will continually drop, retail prices will rise, inflation a certainty, shortages of food and other products, that we'll have a serious depression without a crash and gold will rise.

You Can Profit from a Monetary Crisis addresses a wide range of market dynamics. Essentially, You Can Profit from a Monetary Crisis gives the reader a grasp of the nature of the monetary mess and what he expects to happen in the foreseeable future. It is, therefore, prudent reading for any individual who would like to preserve their personal autonomy in the coming years—where nothing less than investments for survival will do.

The current economic and political events that are unfolding are not isolated incidences, nor are they inexplicable. They are part of an inevitable pattern of consequences brought about by previous causes that can be easily identified.

The first part of the book is a succinct explanation of the principles of cause and effect of economic laws.

Brown, in light of a rapidly depreciating currency, hyperinflation, a devastating five year bear market, wage and price controls, continual balance of trade deficits, and an accrued balance of payments deficit of over $100 billion, recommends that dollar-related investments are not a viable option to overcome a financial crisis and that one should invest in more tangible investments, gold, silver, art, coins.

Heidi's shirt reads: "Read My Lipstick: Vote McCain-Palin"

*** I would recommend this book because of recent political and social events that could lead to a financial crisis and already have impacted our economy. Despite being published in the 70s, many concepts are relevant today.

*** I do not endorse their politics, just the book. 📚
