V rising review and opinions

A friend introduced me to the game V Rising, a survival rpg type game with gameplay and progression reminiscent to other popular survival games, as well as classic western styled pc rpgs (specifically Diablo). 

What is the game about?

You play as a vampire of your own creation attempting to rebuild a vampiric empire. In this world, vampires once ruled, but were pushed out by humans during a war. 

What is the gameplay like?

While I've only played a few hours of it, V Rising is a game that takes alot of queues from other games of its kind. It's an rpg and survival game, but leans heavily in the survival direction where your goal is to just survival and become strong enough to do vampire stuff. The rpg mechanics come in to play with the upgrade system for equipment, as well as an ability syste, (magic, special abilites gained through quests, ect...). As you venture through the vast world, you'll chop trees, break rocks, and fight enemies to gain new stuff to make your base your clan stronger. The game can also be played online with friends, with PvP and PvE modes for your own personal experience.

How are the controls?

Frankly, it's nothing too special. WASD for movement, left click to attack, right click to drag the camera around your character, and the scroll wheel for zooming in and out (the camera is top down, tilted at an angle) buttons like R, X, and C are used for things like magic, while Left CTRL is used to bring up an ability wheel, where you can use support abilities and things of that nature. And of course, the interact button is F and can be used for everything from opening doors and interacting with objects, to draining blood from creatures. There are various other things but those are the things you will use the most.

What do I think?

While the game is nothing special, I do have a bias towards vampires. The power fantasy and the easy at which the game teaches you it's gameplay where too alluring for me. And while I've yet to play online, I imagine what I said remines true for online play. 

I'd say this game is an easy 7.5 or 8/10
