Vincent Gallo- Is he all an act?

Actor, musician, singer, director, producer, and cult icon with such indie films as the cult classic "Buffalo 66'" and the universally panned film, "The Brown Bunny," Vincent Gallo has a persona that emits a pungent odor of misogyny and bigotry and antisemitism that relies on his abusive upbringing has a clutch for his misinformed views.

He goes against mainstream ideals to depict himself as a voluntary social outcast.

His ideologies of a “radical” Republican mimics his stance against the mainstream. He is a celebrity who isn’t liberal or left lending. His hatred of liberal politics in government and in the movie industry is alarming.

But is his hatred unfounded?

Perhaps. However, not in the way he thinks.

His hatred is like a mirror in that it is self-hatred.

Gallo, while he may be pretending to be anti-mainstream; you can’t deny that what he is saying isn’t true. For instance, if Chloe Sevigny directed the movie The Brown Bunny; it would be a critical acclaim film for its feminist ideology. However, since it wasn’t directed by Sevigny and it wasn’t about feminism, it was described as being the “worst film in the history of Cannes”.

But — take for instance, the failure of "Don't Worry, Darling," to deliver on its female orgasm awareness despite its director's assertion that, "Men don't come in this film; only women here," the movie has been panned.

So — perhaps a bad film that relies solely on sexual gratification to move the plot is a bad film regardless of its binary director.

The film industry pretends to be woke in regards to minorities. While they may celebrate a film done by an African American filmmaker, the director/ filmmaker still doesn't get the accolades they deserve.

Many have called into question Gallo’s persona. In that, he emits this hatred for minorities: is it really racism or is Gallo obsessed with how “easy” they have to make an impression in the film industry.

Gallo believes they should have work harder because no one has worked as hard as him.

This goes against everything that Gallo stands for. He is anti-mainstream. If he was a minority (which he is— an Italian immigrant, in fact), then he would have found himself in the mainstream instead of its peripheral vision.

This is where the self-hatred comes from, since he isn't the type to want others to discredit his work ethic or his success. Therefore, being a minority would create a cop-out for critics to deny his work.
