Blog The 8th - Weird, Weirder, yet Weirder

Hello, Internet.

After thinking on what to write for this entry, and after seeing your comments on my Suggestion Entry (click me!),  I decided to first go with Jon's suggestion!

I'm going to talk about the movie
Weird: The Al Yankovic Story!

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is about the life and work of one of the best artists of all time, and a major pioneer in parody songs (though his originals are absolutely sublime), Alfred Matthew Yankovic, better known as "Weird Al" Yankovic.

For those that know me (or for those that have looked at my profile page for 2 picoseconds), you'll know that I absolutely ADORE Weird Al's music. The lyrics are always on point, be them parody or original music, the instrumentation and music is always top notch (shout out to his band! They're mega talented and they've stuck by his side for almost 40 years now, true dedication!) and his voice is fantastic!

As you might be able to tell, Weird Al absolutely loves comedy and joking around. He's a comedy man, of course! And after looking at the trailer for the movie, I can tell that much like his old AL TV series, it doesn't take itself seriously, and is absolutely here for the chaos.

It also looks like it's gonna be a parody poking fun at those super serious, dramatic biopics about celebrities that are always incredibly l o n g.

Here, Al is being played by Daniel Radcliffe, who needs no introduction, being best known for his role as an inky dinky character named HARRY POTTER.

From what I've read about Al and Daniel's relationship, they apparently just clicked as soon as they met. Daniel has always been a big Weird Al fan, and apparently, sounds like Al is also a big Daniel Radcliffe fan! It's even said that when they talk, it's hard to tell who's the starstruck fan and who's the celebrity.

Talking about celebrities, there's gonna be some celebrity characters in the movie! Not played by their real selves, but what can ya do?

Al himself said that he was "
amazed the lawyers let us get away with this movie, frankly.", due to the references to, and the inclusion of celebrity characters in the movie, like Madonna, who in real life is a major Weird Al fan, and actually gave him the idea of the song Like a Surgeon, a parody of her own Like a Virgin.

Buut since they're all public figures, guess the lawyers let the Weird govern the flow.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And of course, we're also having the inclusion of the grand, the amazing Dr. Demento! He's a radio DJ and broadcaster, who found Al and helped him rise to success! And of course that Al has never forgotten Dr. D, as he cameos in several of his music videos!

Dr D. is being played by
Rainn Wilson, who you might or might not know as Dwight from (the US version of) The Office!

He was originally supposed to be played by Patton Oswalt, an actor, stand up comedian and voice actor, but he broke his foot and had to be replaced by Dwight.

As you guys can tell, I'm REALLY excited for this movie! I adore Weird Al, and I really love comedy movies! I believe Daniel will make Al justice, as after all, deep inside, we're all Weird. I'll have to wait until November, which is when the movie is gonna be released on Roku!

When I do watch it, I'll be sure to tell you guys about my thoughts on the movie!

Thank you so much for reading my long, loong blogpost about one of the Weirdest movies that'll ever hit our planet. I'm so excited!!

Do tell me what you thought/think of the movie, the premise, the trailer, and so on in the comments below! Thanks for reading, and as always..

I'll see you soon on the Internet!
