Recently Finished Serial Experiments Lain

So after a weirdly segmented viewing of Serial Experiments Lain I finished the 12 episode run. it was a really weird run that i think I enjoyed quite a lot.

I have two main takeaways. first is that the whole thing is very inspired by the combined fears and excitement over the increasing presence of the internet. Its shown that the internet is capable of some incredible things, of course those things keep bordering on "playing God" which is funny because we sort of kind of see God in this series... not sure if I should have capitalized that there. *shrug*

Second is the thought that were people are, or what people are, is a composite of the memories of themselves in the people around them. Lain does some funky things to others memory and her own and it begs the question, very literally, many times over, who is lain? who is she, who is anyone, outside of what we remember them as?

The art and animation are interesting, I think the use of lighting and color is brilliant, its almost always either too washed out or too dark, which sounds like a bad thing, but I actually loved that. the animation is nothing impressive though, they really put all of the work into the framing and setting and the animation has very little going on, aside from a notable scene at the end.

overall I think anyone with a taste in artful niche anime should see it, its only one season, and frankly thats a good length for it, still I wish there was more, which is the mark of a good anime

To me Lain felt like it was very open in how it could be interpreted, it feels like whatever the show means to you is how it can be interpreted. For me I particularly liked Arisu's relationship with Lain, all it took was one person in Lain's life that cared about her for her to realise that she can be loved

I thought it was overrated and is heralded as an avant-garde masterpiece despite having a mildly engaging story and surface-level themes. do you play battlefield 4?

I never really saw the discussions around the anime before seeing it myself, so I can't speak to how overrated it is, but I believe you, fans have a tendency to do that (god, just look at evangelion)

I'd like to play BF4 but I haven't got it running since I installed linux on my PC. but its one of my most played and favorite games

hahaha, nice. they aren't me, but I'm glad they're doing the namesake good. My username is "nuffens" on BF4, so if you add me on there I'll let you know as soon as I can get it figured out!
