Domo-kun first appeared in short TV sketches on December 22, 1998 on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of NHK's satellite broadcast. 

The name "Domo" was adopted during the second episode of his program.

INFO: Domo-kun is a grotesque brown monster, hairy and oviparous, with a huge mouth that is always kept open and from which you can notice the large sharp teeth. It has two black eyes, two thin arms and stands on two legs. It is 120 centimeters tall and weighs 85 kilograms. His favorite food is nikujaga, a Japanese stew of meat and potatoes, and he hates apples. He loves rock 'n' roll and has a habit of watching too much television. Domo-kun tends to emit flatulence when he is nervous or upset.

In addition to appearing in many 30-second interstitial strips on various television stations, Domo - Kun is remembered for being the main character of Domo TV, a television series co-produced by Nickelodeon and NHK in 2008. During the following year, Nickelodeon aired a series of 7 - Eleven commercials featuring the well-known monster. Tokyopop released an original English-language manga based on the character titled Domo: the Manga, distributed in the United States and Canada and written by Clint Bickham. In 2015, a collection of chiptune songs inspired by Domo - kun titled Domo Loves Chiptune was released online, featuring songs by Anamanaguchi and Disasterpeace. Towards the end of the same year, a Christmas collection called Domo Loves Christmas was also released. Domo-Kun is featured in 5 Nintendo DSi video games, namely Crash-Course Domo, Hard-Hat Domo, Rock-N-Roll Domo, Pro-Putt Domo and White-Water Domo, all released in 2009. He also appears in Domo-Kun No Fushigi Terebi (2002) for Game Boy Advance and the Facebook social game Planet Domo (2011).
