Although I know probably no one will read this, I think it's a nice way to collect my thoughts so they don't float alone in the notes on my cell phone.
It's a Japanese movie from 2001, but more than making an analysis about it, I would like to be able to share my feelings/thoughts about it. Spoiler alert.
"Slice of life" "Adulthood" are terms with which I can associate this film, what marks its originality and excellently accompanies the plot is the non-linear sequence it has over time, growing up. Making the viewer feel lost, uncertain and dissociative, at least in my case. This atmosphere of doubt cruelly accompanies sensitive but real issues, abuse, bullying, suicide. Sometimes it seems that it lacks dialogues, and it is that the scene accompanied by the background music, says more than a thousand words.
The landscape of Okinawa, the rice fields, were taken in an ingenious way, capturing the essence of the "ether". It would be difficult to explain to you what my words, and the film itself, mean if you haven't seen it yet.
It may be a movie from more than 20 years ago, but somehow, even though the internet has evolved and we are not in the same historical context, or location. Lily chou chou ages in a good way, because if something does not change it is the subject of coming of age. Turning it into a movie that hurts, more so if one is uncertain about his life, going through the same moment as the characters, in which time lays down weakly on the weight of our decisions.
Although its aura is depressing and it does not propose an objective solution to the problems it presents, it does have criticism. And it teaches us the pain that bullying and abuse can bear on victims, we can act beforehand and avoid our own and others' pain, by speaking.
