ok so you hear this statement so much right. and i feel like im posting this in a biased area bc we are all here on spacehey which means we to some extent probably disagree with that sentiment right? or if we agree with it we don't particularly like/support it. i think i'm in the latter camp? like i really want to believe that we can turn the trajectory around so to speak and get people to understand the value of computers versus mobile devices...being on a computer is far more intentional than just scrolling thru your phone, and oftentimes you can't customize your profiles as much if you only use mobile, which hinders the inherent creativity available through the internet and online spaces.
but, like...i feel like people don't particularly care about that as much anymore? i don't know where my thoughts are on this honestly but it depresses me how little people seem to mind the black box of template/profile-based systems. the closest we have to widespread customization across platforms is carrd, and while i think carrd is a really good tool for this stuff, it's still just a limited drag-and-drop template. it's designed to be mobile-friendly in that way, which is good and bad for the cause of personal customization on the internet. i don't know!! it's really complicated. all i really do know is that i don't want computer use to become niche or obsolete and it saddens me how many people are mostly mobile users when it comes to their online experience.
trying to get more of my friends to join spacehey and actually use it to change that orz
