*an unorganized review of bee and puppycat

bee and puppycat just came out today on netflix, and i thought it was pretty good!! i don't really know how to structure this, so im just gonna go with my thoughts on the first three episodes and then the newly released lazy in space episodes :D and then i'll just maybe do some general thoughts on the whole shebang and stuff!

actual season review

episodes 1-3 are really just the first season condensed so that new viewers would be able to get the plot of the whole series before all of the lazy in space episodes, including some new lore-related scenes, which is really exciting! the animation is upped, and a bunch of the previous season's plots are mashed up together so that they wont have to spend more time rebooting each and every episode (which is totally understandable since animation takes like a million years to finish).

i consider it a pretty good starting point for new viewers, but i'd really reccomend to also view the original first season/pilot available on youtube! the netflix version really skips out on certain segments that provide extra context and just general development that's shown in the youtube version. (also, my favorite episode was just reduced into a 10-second scene and a mention) but all in all, the first couple episodes are pretty decent renditions of the youtube series, and they do their job of keeping people caught up well.

as for the rest of the episodes, (by the way, spoiler warning from here on out!) i've had access to them for a while due to that season leak that happened a couple years ago, but i'm really glad that i get to talk about it now and officially support the series! i'm glad that the original cat cafe featured in the pilot finally makes its appearance, as well as the official introduction of deckard's brothers (crispin especially). the entire segment that shows bee's complications with being a robot and how it affects her relationships and how she lives in general.. its just so good i love it!!

also, the animation looks absolutely beautiful, and its just a general fun watch, especially now that we have some established antagonists. and just thinking about the finale of the whole thing makes me so excited to see more from the show. hopefully netflix gets it to make another season!

oh, and also: the space outlaw is voiced by steve blum, english dub voice of spike spiegel, which i a really nice touch that caught me offguard!

general thoughts

i love this series. the visuals and designs for everything are absolutely amazing, the whole concept and lore of it all is so interesting and has captured my heart for the better half of a decade, and bee and puppycat themselves are such a fun duo!

however, i do have some general issues.. like certain inflections of bee's voice lines or how some of the show's jokes fall flat.. but that's all mainly just preference

this also might be nostalgia talking, but i really prefer the 2013 pilot artstyle to that of the netflix release.. the original style had a lot of charm which was one of the main reasons i got sucked into it.

i'm not quite sure how to end this, but i'll say you shouldnt let my issues affect your viewing and opinions on the show ^^ bee and puppycat is such a great show that's really special to my heart and it really deserves its spot on netflix, especially after all of that release and licensing hell it's gone through. watch the release and support it, and hopefully it gets greenlit for another season!
